Okay, by show of hands, who likes to play dress-up. Don’t lie! I see that copy of FFX-2 on your desk. You’re all about what the Japanese call henshin action, or the uncontrollable urge to find the biggest, floppiest hats, raccoon tails, sailor suits, whatever, and afix them to your body in a playful manner to achieve special powers while looking damn good at the same time. But while any floozy can throw on a skintight wetsuit and fly to the Incan ruins to shoot a bear in the face, it takes a certain sense of fashion and finesse to overcome life’s more challenging endeavors; zombies, demons, and leech-filled locomotives. The ladies of survival horror are made to endure all manner of grotesqueries to achieve their end goal of getting the hell out of Dodge — imagine their reactions when they’re planted right back at the beginning of their journey, this time with a stylish tube top! Every Resident Evil game thus far has awarded players at least one new costume for their chosen character on subsequent playthroughs, a practice that Konami has only recently added to its trademark Silent Hill series. We’ve decided to pit the cheesiest survival horror series against the scariest in a battle of pure fashion with a boutique full of ensembles from Resident Evil Rebirth, Resident Evil Zero, and a few selections from the Silent Hill series. It certainly doesn’t hurt that both games’ female cast members naturally accentuate the finer points of their outfits, but don’t forget that it’s all about the fashion, people! Please try to remember that when emptying your Desert Eagle into what used to be your commanding officer. Warning: Spoilers abound for most everything related to Resident Evil and Silent Hill, so don’t go bitching to me if you didn’t already know that Maria kills herself. Oh snap#@!
